Night Differential Calculator

Night shift differential in the Philippines is at least 10% of your hourly rate for each hour worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM (Labor Code, Art. 86). On rest days, special days or holidays, the 10% applies on that day's premium rate, so the differentials stack multiplicatively. Enter your shift below — the calculator counts the eligible night hours automatically.

The Night Work Window

The law fixes the window at 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. It does not matter when your shift starts — only the hours that overlap this window earn the differential. Shifts that cross midnight (e.g., 8 PM–5 AM) are handled correctly by the calculator.

Example Computations

Example 1 — Call-center graveyard shift (10 PM–6 AM), ₱120/hour, ordinary day: base ₱960 + ND (8h × ₱12) = ₱96. Total: ₱1,056.

Example 2 — 6 PM–3 AM shift, ₱90/hour: 5 night hours (10 PM–3 AM). ND = 5 × ₱9 = ₱45 on top of the ₱810 base (9 hours; hours beyond 8 also need OT premium — use the Overtime Calculator for that part).

Example 3 — Rest-day night shift 10 PM–6 AM, ₱100/hour: premium hourly = ₱130; base ₱1,040 + ND (8 × ₱13) = ₱104. Total: ₱1,144.

Who This Applies To

Every covered employee under the Labor Code — most rank-and-file workers in the private sector, notably BPO/call-center agents, healthcare staff, security, manufacturing and hotel workers. Government employees follow separate rules; managerial employees and field personnel are generally excluded. Company policy or CBA can grant more than 10% — this calculator uses the legal minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is night differential computed in the Philippines?

Night shift differential is at least 10% of your hourly rate for every hour worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Example: at ₱100/hour, each night hour pays an extra ₱10, so a full 10 PM–6 AM shift earns ₱800 base + ₱80 night differential = ₱880.

What hours count as night differential hours?

Only the hours that actually fall between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. A 2 PM–11 PM shift has one night hour (10–11 PM); a 6 PM–3 AM shift has five (10 PM–3 AM); a full 10 PM–6 AM graveyard shift has eight.

How is night differential computed on a holiday or rest day?

The 10% applies on the hourly rate for that day. On a rest day (130%), a night hour pays 130% × 110% = 143% of the ordinary hourly rate; on a regular holiday (200%), it pays 220%; on a regular holiday falling on a rest day, 286%.

How does night differential stack with overtime?

Multiplicatively, per the DOLE handbook. Overtime on an ordinary night: 125% × 110% = 137.5% per hour. Overtime on a regular holiday at night: 200% × 130% × 110% = 286% per hour.

Is night differential taxable?

For most employees, yes — it is part of taxable compensation. However, night differential received by minimum wage earners is income-tax-exempt under the NIRC as amended.
