How It Is Calculated
- Base hourly rate — daily rate ÷ 8, or from your monthly salary via your company's divisor.
- Day-type multiplier — 100% ordinary, 130% rest/special day, 200% regular holiday, etc.
- OT factor — +25% on ordinary days, +30% on all premium days, applied on the day-type rate.
- Night differential — OT hours between 10 PM and 6 AM add 10% on the OT rate.
Example Computations
Example 1 — 2 OT hours on an ordinary day, ₱100/hour: ₱100 × 125% × 2 = ₱250 additional pay.
Example 2 — 3 OT hours on a rest day, ₱80/hour: ₱80 × 169% × 3 = ₱405.60.
Example 3 — 2 OT hours on a regular holiday, both at night, ₱100/hour: OT rate ₱260/hour; night differential adds ₱26/hour → (₱260 + ₱26) × 2 = ₱572.
Who This Applies To
Covered rank-and-file employees under the Labor Code's hours-of-work rules. Managerial employees, field personnel, family members dependent on the employer for support, domestic helpers and workers paid by results are generally excluded. Frequently Asked Questions
How is overtime pay computed in the Philippines?
Overtime — work beyond 8 hours a day — is paid at your hourly rate plus at least 25% on an ordinary day (125%). On a rest day, special day or holiday, overtime is the day’s premium rate plus 30%. Example: ₱100/hour on an ordinary day → ₱125 per OT hour.
What are the overtime rates per day type?
Ordinary day: 125%. Rest day or special day: 169% (130% × 130%). Special day falling on a rest day: 195%. Regular holiday: 260% (200% × 130%). Regular holiday falling on a rest day: 338%. All rates are per hour beyond 8 hours, as percentages of the ordinary hourly rate.
How do I get my hourly rate from my monthly salary?
Divide your daily rate by 8. If you only know your monthly salary, the usual conversion is (monthly salary × 12) ÷ number of paid working days per year ÷ 8 — commonly 313 days for Mon–Sat schedules or 261 for Mon–Fri. Your HR’s divisor governs; the calculator’s monthly option uses 313 as an approximation.
Is overtime on a night shift paid more?
Yes. Overtime hours that fall between 10 PM and 6 AM also earn the 10% night differential on top of the OT rate. An ordinary-day night OT hour pays 125% × 110% = 137.5% of the ordinary hourly rate.
Can my employer refuse to pay overtime?
Statutory overtime pay is mandatory for covered employees who are required or permitted to work beyond 8 hours. However, managerial employees, field personnel and certain other categories are excluded from hours-of-work rules. Undertime on another day cannot be offset against overtime.
